Nikolai Insurance History

The Nikolai Insurance Agency has been a family-owned business for 3 generations and over 55 years. The agency began with Leo Nikolai Sr., after he sold his farm and his first business, Nik’s Dairy. Leo Sr. and his sons had delivered milk door to door for over 30 years in Marshfield. Leo Sr.’s business experience, identification and personal knowledge of and with the rural farm community; in which he also had labored, helped to enable him to build a successful and solid business.

Leo Nikolai Jr. joined his father in the Agency in 1959 and the office was moved from Downtown Marshfield to 1727 North Central Avenue. This expanded the office and the business focus to providing professional, up-to-date coverage geared toward the customer’s changing needs. This was possible due to the nature of being an *Independent Agency. Leo Sr. retired from the business in 1966.

In 1975, after attending the UW Wood county and UW-Madison campuses, James Nikolai joined his father in the family business and became the third generation to serve Marshfield and the surrounding communities. In 1984, James purchased the agency from his father, who retired. In 1987 the office was moved into the building next door so that the business could continue to expand and modernize.

In 2007, more space was needed to continue serving our clients and the Agency relocated to the current location at 1406 South Central Avenue, Marshfield. We are proud of our newly remodeled office which continues to offer easy access from Central Avenue, a larger parking area and fast, professional service.
